The SC² brand originated as a playful nod to Shelley Collier's (maiden) name and the abbreviations associated with one of her designations, "certified strength and conditioning coach (CSCS)." Shelley Collier Strength Coach evolved into SCSC and, subsequently, SC squared.
Armed with her shiny new SC² brand, Shelley opened shop in 2014 in Canmore, AB with the dream to be working with elite endurance athletes, and to be recognized as one of Canada's elite female strength coaches. Just in time for life to throw her an unexpected twist — her first pregnancy, disrupting her plans just five months after opening her doors. Despite this shift in focus, Shelley continued pushing towards her goals, working with provincial Nordic ski and biathlon teams, and coaching young, determined athletes (now NHL level hockey stars, Canadian National Team Speed and Figure Skaters!)
Shelley built a team of expert coaches, allowing her to extend her coaching services to many more sports clubs, athletes, and clients. "If you had a body in Canmore, you trained with Shelley and SC²!" The SC squared influence spread like fire, reaching nearly everyone with a muscle in Canmore!
Shelley DID coach the Canadian National Cross Country and Biathlon ski teams, all while journeying into motherhood....in 2017, she discovered she was pregnant for a second time. With twins!
Her appreciation for the body and its infinite potential continued to expand — steering her passion and focus towards women's health, pelvic floor rehabilitation and therapy, allowing women and mothers to thrive no matter what stage of hormonal life cycle they were at.
Shelley’s mission is not only to elevate personal training standards but also to ensure that elite strength coaching services ARE accessible to a broader audience, including those dealing with injuries, striving for personal success, coping with chronic pain, or simply uncertain about where to begin.
Today, Shelley and her family are new residents of Invermere, BC, where SC² is recognized as the best new business in the area.
I remember laying on the floor in that first class and tears falling down my cheeks as I realized that I literally didn't know how to breathe... I came back for a private class that week and let that hidden vulnerability be exposed and explored. How can you question the value of someone who taught you to breathe... you can't!
I have found a personal strength, physically, that has not yet found its boundary.
You train folks who show up in different ways, with different challenges, almost always someone is nursing some new, or recurring injury, and you keep us safe, you let us lean into that space.
I am a mother of twins and as a result of Shelley's personal training I have a functioning pelvic floor for the first time in years. I feel fully equipped to continue her training in my own home and I really appreciate her sensitive approach.
Your value proposition really speaks for itself, I think when I started training with you you had just moved to town and there were three of us in the class, and honestly I was only there as a favor to Jane to support a new business LOL... I NEVER EVER EVER EVER imagined myself as someone who hits the gym with a trainer three times a week LOLOLOL (that still makes me laugh actually I still don't see myself as that person)... Let alone who drives a half hour each way to make it happen.
Your value, and contribution to the lives of those you train is so evident to me in the faces that keep showing up, keep smiling, keep sweating and keep swearing :)
When I started training, I was postpartum and had lost a lot of my strength, I was also suffering from sciatic pain and leg weakness from a herniated disc. With Shelley’s expertise and vast knowledge of all things pelvic floor (and everything else), she helped me regain my overall strength and become pain free again.
Moving from Toronto I never thought there would be the same caliber of fitness and strength coaching. Shelley is one of the best and we are so fortunate to have her here. Her understanding of the body, especially for women is unparalleled. Her approach is supportive and most of all she has a wonderful sense of humour. Shelley meets you where you are in your training journey and can give a top notch class that works for beginners to those with serious goals
Shelley is the best! As a former national team biathlete who has worked with many coaches in my life, I can honestly say Shelley is one of the most knowledgeable and dedicated coaches I have worked with.
